nypl:

We are just obsessed with doughnuts today! Who knew the Library's 1939-1940 World's Fair Collection would have so many images tied to this delicious topic? Sure enough, it does, and here are a bunch of images depicting a dunking contest, three women who created prize donuts, firemen eating donuts, and pretty women posing with donuts. What better way to savor National Doughnut Day? Well, actually, if pictures aren't enough, check out this sweet blog by our own Lauren Lampasone of Reference and Research Services. She goes over the whole history of the holiday, which started as a Great Depression fundraiser by The Salvation Army in 1938 in remembrance of the women who served doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines of World War I. So have a doughnut in their honor today! Enjoy!

Blackberry Gatherers, 1914 - Arthur Rackham

Painted in late summer 1914, the flock of black birds over the peaceful landscape is taken to be a sign of the coming war.

This week last year we shared the Webby-winning Mister Rogers "Garden of your Mind" remix, and today, as a thank you for being fans of PBS Digital Studios, we are releasing its B-side from our incredibly talented friend, John Boswell.

It's called "Sing Together." Click here to watch, enjoy and SHARE!

YES.

WHY IS MY FACE RAINING!

I want to say so many things about Mr. Rogers right now, but this video says it all better than I ever could.

The Cronut Craze: Do It Yourself: Cronuts, the pastry made of croissant dough, shaped into a donut, fried in oil, and topped or stuffed with icing, have taken the baking world by storm. The brainchild of the Dominique Ansel Bakery in NYC, these super healthy (sarcasm, folks) treats were only unveiled three weeks ago, but they've already gained a huge following. So much so that there's already a recipe available for the ambitious home cook.
